But first, a quick story: April 24th, 2012 started like any other day. Like I did every afternoon, I popped open my laptop to check my Analytics. But this wasn’t going to be like any other day... I couldn’t believe what I saw on my screen. I rubbed my eyes in disbelief. But there was no mistaking it: I was toast. My rankings had tanked. Turns out that I was far from alone. Google released its now-famous “Penguin” update that day, which penalized thousands of sites overnight. I thought to myself: “This is the 6th time Google has wiped you out. Maybe it's time to give up on this SEO thing and try something new.” But there was this tingle in the back of my brain that wouldn’t go away. Yes, just like Spidey Sense :-) I felt like I was this close to a breakthrough. So close that I could almost reach out and touch it. But I couldn’t wrap my head around why I was struggling. After all, I was following all of the advice that I read on forums and blogs....
